BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT LEAD, INDIA AND SOUTH ASIA

Why we are recruiting

As a partnership organization, the Forum, through the Business Engagement Group, engages businesses to address industry, regional and systemic issues. Structured geographically, the Business Engagement teams for the regions are responsible for building, managing and developing the world’s communities of business partners to advance critical topics facing the emerging world through engagement with government, industry, academia and civil society leaders.

The role of the South Asia Business Engagement Team is to build partnerships in the region and orchestrate their engagement across the Forum’s value platforms.

The Business Engagement Lead will be responsible for identifying, initiating and closing relevant partner conversations, and ensuring excellence in managing a portfolio of partners. Overall, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of the World Economic Forum’s partner base in India & South Asia, which will continue to be the driving force that will support the Forum to deliver on its mission to improve the state of the world.

Reporting lines and interactions:

The Business Engagement Lead will report to the Head of Business Engagement – India & South Asia.

Internally, this person will work with colleagues in the Business Engagement and Government teams, as well as Industry and Platform teams, and externally with a broad range of stakeholders in partner companies.

Main responsibilities


  • Development and Acquisition: Lead partner development and acquisition efforts by building a pipeline of the most relevant companies across industries, manage the entire business development cycle and ensure successful onboarding of new partners on the Forum platform
  • Partner engagement: Build and develop trusted, long-term relationships with partners, engaging their C-suite executives; understand partners’ strategic interests and co-develop and drive the implementation of tailored engagement plans based on topics of interest to the partners. Act as a trusted adviser for partner companies, guide them on the Forum’s platform and ensuring that they derive the highest value from their engagement.

The successful candidate will be assessed on


  • Development of a new pipeline of potential partner companies and meeting partner acquisition targets
  • Partner retention rates and proactive management of partners at risk of disengagement
  • Demonstrating service mindset in responding to requests and interacting with internal and external stakeholders, with an ability to collaborate internally with relevant colleagues to ensure proactive partner acquisition efforts and continuous delivery of tailored partnerships
  • Contribution to operational excellence within the team, ensuring that Forum-wide processes are well understood and diligently applied to the portfolio of companies managed
  • Demonstrating understanding of the region’s business and political landscape, its main stakeholders, ability to closely monitor and evaluate key industry developments, media reports and policy changes that impact the larger ecosystem
  • Demonstrating collaborative team spirit, growth mindset and agility to adapt to ambiguous situations

Requirements and Experience


  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Business, Economics, Engineering or another relevant field
  • 7 to 10 years of professional experience including business development and relationship management experience in the India & South Asia region
  • Knowledge of the business and political landscape of the region
  • Ability to successfully negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and external partners
  • Team player who enjoys working in a highly collaborative, culturally diverse, fast-paced, and rapidly evolving environment
  • Responsible, independent, and self-driven
  • Ability to manage high pressure situations with a professional attitude
  • Excellent organizational, project and time management skills, strong work ethic and attitude, and high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with and manage expectations of senior executives and their team with confidence
  • Deep passion for the future of the business in the emerging world, the role it plays within the global context, and its potential impact on society and the individual
  • Proficient in working with MS Office and Salesforce, experience with other CRM tools a plus.
